| The country of Malta is formed by several islands that are situated South of Sicily. Throughout European history, they played an important role as a stronghold against islamic and arabic invasions. For many centuries, the Knights Order of St. John ruled Malta. Later, it became a british colony. The history is reflected in many prehistorical temples, fortifications, churches and other monumental buildings. Apart from that, there is a wide variety of landscapes.
